What is happening
On Monday 5 October, from 8:00 to 9:30 pm, the ALEA Quartet from Graz plays in the Rubinstein-Saal at the Steinway-Haus (Landsberger Straße 336). The evening is part of the series "4⁴ – Streichquartettreihe in 4 Kapiteln: München–Graz" and is titled "Komponist:innen in Bayern". It is organised by Tonkünstler München e.V. Entry is free.
The programme features works by Herbert Blendinger, Robert Delanoff, Dorothee Eberhardt, Igmar Jenner, Gerhard Präsent and Robert Stützle.
Why it is interesting
Say "string quartet" and most people think of Haydn and Beethoven. The names on this programme are not in the school textbook, because the music comes from our own time and our own region. Anyone who wants to understand that classical music is still being written gets to hear it first-hand on an evening like this.
Who it is for
Adults, and older students learning violin or another string instrument. Monday at eight in the evening is not a realistic time for families with small children, and it is better to say so.
A listening tip: for one movement, pick a single voice, the viola for instance, and follow only that. Four instruments are few enough to make this possible, and afterwards you hear the whole movement differently.
