What is happening
On Tuesday 13 October 2026 the Swiss pianist and composer Manon Mullener plays in the Night Club of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof (Promenadeplatz 2–6). Doors open at 7 pm, the concert starts at 8 pm.
Mullener combines jazz with Cuban rhythms, which she studied in Havana. There are five people on stage: Manon Mullener on piano, Lucien Mullener on drums, Rodrigo Aravena on electric bass, Victor Decamp on trombone and Samuel Urscheler on saxophones. Her latest album, “Stories”, was recorded in New York and released in March 2025.
According to the organiser, tickets cost 35 euros in advance (plus fees) and 45 euros at the door. Pupils and students pay half.
Who this is not for
This is not for children: a club concert on a Tuesday evening, in a hotel in the city centre. And even with the discount it is not a cheap night out. We have not checked whether tickets are still available.
What you can learn there
Cuban music rests on a pattern of five strokes across two bars, the clave. Clap it once beforehand: in the first bar on 1, on the “and” of 2, and on 4; in the second bar on 2 and on 3. Slowly, counting out loud, until it runs by itself.
At the concert, listen only to the electric bass and the drums for two minutes. The question: does the bass play on beat 1, or does it arrive just before and leave beat 1 empty? Once you have heard that on purpose, you understand why this music pulls forward although nobody speeds up.
