Singing Lessons in Munich
Your voice is the most natural instrument. We work on breathing technique, vocal production, intonation, and performance. For soloists and band work.
Want to learn to sing – in a choir, in a band, or just for yourself? At Fretster you get voice lessons that work with your voice instead of against it: breath support, clean intonation, and a repertoire of real songs, not just scales. Two locations in Munich, for children from 8, teenagers and adults.
Who are these singing lessons for?
For beginners who have never sung in front of anyone. For children from 8, whose voices are still developing and need to be guided carefully. For adults who are "not really musical" and want to try anyway. And for singers who already front a band and want a voice that lasts – without going hoarse after the third song.
What you don't need: sheet-music skills, "talent", prior experience. What you do need: 30 to 60 minutes a week and the willingness to record yourself and listen back.
What a voice lesson at Fretster looks like
Every lesson starts with a short warm-up: body, breath, then the voice – from humming to glissandi across your range. The vocal folds are muscle and mucous membrane; they need warming up just like a sprinter's legs.
Then technique: breath support (the diaphragm and abdominal muscles regulate the airflow, not the throat), vowel balance, the transition between chest and head voice. We work with the Fretster method across four areas – rhythm, motor skills, ear and theory – and for singing the clear focus is the ear: if you can hear a note cleanly in your head, you can hit it.
The second half belongs to the song. You bring what you want to sing – pop, soul, rock, musical theatre, jazz – and we break it into phrases you can practise at home during the week. At the end we record. It's uncomfortable, and it's the most effective tool there is: you hear yourself differently from the outside.
"I can't sing" – what the research says
Most people who believe they can't hold a note actually can – they have just never practised it systematically. True congenital amusia, the inability to tell pitches apart, affects only a small part of the population according to studies (the usual estimates are in the low single-digit percent range). Everyone else sings "off" because the link between hearing and voicing hasn't been trained.
That link can be built – at any age. Intonation improves measurably with regular feedback: recordings, a tuner, a teacher who tells you whether you're sharp or flat. That's why we use our own ear-training tools from the Fretster app in lessons.
Lessons in Obersendling and Allach
Singing lessons are available at both Fretster locations: in the south of Munich in Obersendling (Hatzelweg 25, 81476 München) and in the north-west in Allach-Untermenzing (Gustav-Otto-Bogen 13, 80997 München), easy to reach from Moosach, Pasing, Karlsfeld and Dachau.
We currently have open slots on Fridays and Tuesdays – a new voice teacher is joining us and her schedule is being filled right now. If Friday or Tuesday works for you, now is the easiest time to start – just add "Friday" or "Tuesday" to your trial-lesson request.

Free practice tools between lessons
Our own mini tools run in the browser, with no sign-up and nothing to install:
Singing trainer — Hold a note, sing it back, scales, intervals – you see straight away whether you are sharp or flat.
Ear training — Hear and name intervals as a short game with levels. Five minutes a day is enough.
Metronome — Tempo, time signatures and a planned practice session. Built for phones, no sign-up.
And when you no longer want to play alone:
Jam Station — Open session: play with others, no fixed programme.
Band workshop — Rehearse songs together – that is how you learn to listen, count and start at the same time.
Frequently asked questions
- From what age can children take singing lessons?
- From about 8. A child's voice is still growing, so we work with it playfully and without pressure on volume or range. During the voice change we adjust the load – we don't stop the lessons.
- I have never sung before – is that a problem?
- No, that's the normal case. Most of our adult students start from zero. The first lesson is deliberately a trial: we see where your voice is, and you see whether our way of working suits you.
- Do I need to read music?
- No. We work with lyrics, recordings and your ear. Music theory comes in small doses when it helps you sing – for example to recognise intervals or understand a key.
- Which styles do you teach?
- Pop, rock, soul, R&B, musical theatre and jazz. We don't offer classical art song. You help choose the repertoire – we make sure the songs fit your voice as it is today.
- Can I sing in a band too?
- Yes – at Fretster that's explicitly the goal. Our band programmes are open to singers; once you have a few songs down, you can join a band and get on stage.
- How fast will I hear progress?
- With weekly lessons and 10–15 minutes of practice a day, intonation usually changes audibly within a few weeks. Range and stamina take longer – months, not days. We document your progress with recordings so you can hear it yourself.
