Music school in Munich: lessons in Obersendling and Allach
Fretster is a private music school in Munich with two locations: in the south at Hatzelweg 25 in Obersendling (close to Forstenried, Fürstenried, Solln, Thalkirchen and Sendling) and in the north-west at Gustav-Otto-Bogen 13 in Allach (handy for Untermenzing, Moosach, Pasing and Karlsfeld). We teach nine instruments: electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano and keys, saxophone, voice, violin and music production on the iPad.
What sets us apart from a classical music school is our motto: from zero to band. You learn your instrument in one-to-one lessons – and as soon as a few songs are solid, you play in a fixed band with people at your level. Every band plays a concert once a year and records its set in the studio. Between lessons you practise with our free mini-apps: tuner, metronome, ear training – all in the browser, no sign-up.
Who is it for? Children from 4–6 years (depending on the instrument), teenagers and adults – including anyone picking music back up at 40 or 60. You need no prior knowledge and no instrument of your own to start. The first step is a trial lesson: you play, we listen and tell you honestly how things could continue.
Frequently asked questions about the school
- How much do music lessons at Fretster cost?
- Weekly one-to-one lessons cost €105 per month for 30 minutes, €149 for 45 minutes and €185 for 60 minutes. The band programme (60 minutes a week in a fixed band) is €52 per month per person. All prices and options are on the pricing page – no hidden fees.
- Where in Munich do lessons take place?
- At two locations: Hatzelweg 25 in Obersendling (81476, near U3 Forstenrieder Allee – for the south of Munich) and Gustav-Otto-Bogen 13 in Allach (80997 – for the north-west, Moosach, Pasing and Karlsfeld). You pick whichever is closer to home, school or work.
- Is the trial lesson free?
- For children, yes. For adults the trial lesson costs €20. In the trial lesson you (or your child) play the instrument for the first time, the teacher assesses where you stand and together you discuss goals, lesson length and a time slot. You decide afterwards, at your own pace – no pressure in the room.
- Which instruments can I learn?
- Electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano and keys, saxophone, voice, violin and music production on the iPad. Every instrument has its own page with how lessons work, starting age and FAQs. Can’t decide? You’re welcome to try things out in the trial lesson.
- From what age – and am I too old at 45?
- Children start between 4 and 6 depending on the instrument (violin earlier, bass and saxophone later). There is no upper limit: a large share of our students are adults, many of them complete beginners. The brain learns music at any age – adults simply need a different practice strategy, and that is exactly what you get with us.
- Are there piano lessons in Allach?
- Yes. We teach piano and keys at both locations – including Gustav-Otto-Bogen 13 in Allach, right on the border with Karlsfeld, for Untermenzing, Moosach, Pasing and Karlsfeld. Children from 5, teenagers and adults; the trial lesson is free for kids. All details are on the Piano Lessons Munich page.

- Yes. We teach guitar and electric guitar at both locations – in Obersendling and at Gustav-Otto-Bogen 13 in Allach, right on the border with Karlsfeld, convenient for Untermenzing, Moosach, Pasing and Karlsfeld.
